The National Beer Scoring Sceme

If you enjoy a pint in the pub, why not take the National Beer Scoring Scheme (NBSS) ?

   What is it ?
The NBSS is a eleven point scale (0-5) for judging the beer quality in pubs.  It is an easy to use system which has been designed to assist CAMRA branches in selecting pubs for the Good Beer Guide.  It encourages CAMRA members to report on the beer quality that they have found in any pub in the UK. NOW ONLINE see below.

What is the scale  ?
0 Undrinkable No cask beer available or so poor you have to take it back or can't finish it.
1 Poor Beer that is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.
2 Average Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn't inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer with really noticing.
3 Good Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.
4 Very Good Excellent beer in excellent condition.
5 Perfect Probably the best you are ever likely to find.  A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely.

You can rate .5 in between any rating so 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5

Now complete your NBSS online.
The NBSS is a six point scale (0-5) for judging beer quality in pubs that has been designed to assist CAMRA branches in selecting pubs for the bestselling Good Beer Guide. In the past CAMRA members filled in cards to rate the beer in a pub and then submitted the entries to CAMRA, but now they are able to fill the details in online at, making the process quicker and easier than ever before.

Or you can still get NBSS cards here if you would prefer them. These can then be given in at any M&A meeting or branch social to our pubs officer.
